Highest Ever Freight Loading Of Eastern Railway

Kolkata: Eastern Railway has achieved a highest ever freight loading to the tune of 80.45 million tonnes on 13.3.2024 i.e. 18 days before the completion of the current financial year 2023-24. This achievement is the highest ever loading in Eastern Railway in any financial year even considering the period before bifurcation of the Railways when Seven Divisions were in Eastern Railway instead of current spread over four Divisions only. The previous highest loading of 80.04 million tonnes, was achieved in the year 1999-2000, prior to bifurcation.

Though Eastern Railway is known as passenger carrying Railway but this remarkable achievement of highest ever freight loading by Eastern Railway has been possible under the guidance of Milind K Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway and coordinated activities of various departments at Headquarters and at Divisional levels. Traffic Commercial Directorate of Railway Board has also extended their constant support & guidance to Eastern Railway in achieving this historical milestone.

R. Meena, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Eastern Railway said that Eastern Railway is striving hard to explore all possibilities of increasing the volume of freight loading. Under Gati Shakti project, several freight terminals have come up recently. Business Development Units (BDUs) of Eastern Railway negotiating for new varieties of freight. The outcome of concerted efforts is this achievement of highest ever freight loading by Eastern Railway.
