GM Eastern Railway Inspected Progress Of Sealdah Station Platform Extension Project for 12 Coach over Sealdah North & Main Line Sections

Kolkata : Milind K Deouskar, General Manager of Eastern Railways, along with Additional General Manager Sumit Sarkar and Bhuvnesh Kumar Agarwal, Principal Chief Signal & Telecommunication, conducted a thorough inspection of the progress of ongoing platform extension project at Sealdah Station. The project aims to upgrade platforms 1 to 5 to accommodate 12-coach trains, enhancing operational efficiency at one of India’s busiest railway stations. This project aims at converting all EMU locals over Sealdah North & Main Line sections into 12 coach train.

During the inspection, Shri Dipak Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager, and other Branch officers of Sealdah Division provided detailed updates on the progress of civil, electrical, signal and telecommunication, and TRD works. The team discussed the ongoing construction activities and outlined the timeline for upcoming tasks.

The General Manager expressed satisfaction with the progress made thus far and provided valuable guidance to the divisional team, particularly regarding passenger entry and exit points. He emphasized the importance of timely completion to ensure minimal disruption to commuter services.

Key highlights of the project include the extension of platforms 1 to 5 from their current length of approximately 210m to 270m, facilitating the accommodation of 12-coach trains. Each platform will undergo a 10m extension towards the concourse area and a 60m extension towards the Narkeldanga maintenance yard.

The project is progressing as per schedule, with a targeted completion date by the end of May 2024.
