Kolkata : Alzheimer disease is a progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills. It’s the most common type of dementia and a leading cause of death. In order to raise awareness about Alzheimer disease and other forms of dementia, World Alzeimer Month is observed every September for educating common people, supporting the affected persons and advocating for improved care. Theme for this year’s World Alzheimer month is “It’s time to act for people with dementia.” Approximately 55 million people are affected with dementia throughout the globe and this number is expected to be almost triple by 2050.

On the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Month, an awareness programme was organised at B.R.Singh Hospital Sealdah. It was graced by the presence of Dr. Subhankar Home, CMS/SDAH, Dr. Rudrendu Bhattacharyya, Dr. Sarbani Sengupta, Dr. Sanchita Dutta, Dr Sujata Basu, Dr Mandira Banerjee and Dr. Kousik Mondal.
Specialist doctors discussed the signs, symptoms and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease in very simple language. Dr. Kalpana Mandal discussed diets that modify chronic diseases. The seminar was followed by an interactive session with the audience. It was indeed a very enriching session.
The objective of the seminar is to challenge the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and to promote a more inclusive and supportive society for affecting people in the society as nearly 10 million new cases are being diagnosed every year worldwide.
