Kolkata: Lt General Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, DG NCC visited 1 Sikkim Girls Battalion NCC and 3 Sikkim Battalion NCC at Gangtok. During the visit, he interacted with the Sikkim NCC Cadets at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Govt College. He shared his vision of the opportunities offered to the youth of Sikkim through various training programmes and activities progressed under the aegis of NCC. The DG complimented the Sikkim cadets for performing exceedingly well and appreciated their standards displayed even at national level NCC activities and competitions while winning many awards. During the event, the General presented various awards to recognise special achievers including DG NCC Commendation Card to SUO Nishtha, DG NCC Medallion to JUO Christina Rai, DG NCC Plaque to Lt Dikit Lhamu Lepcha and DG NCC Commendation Card to Ms Leezum Lepcha.
Later, the DG NCC accompanied by Major General Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate and Brigadier Mukesh Gurung, SM held a meeting with His Excellency Om Prakash Mathur, Governor of the Sikkim and discussed the future expansion of NCC in the state as also the initiatives being undertaken to further enhance participation of state youth in NCC programmes.
The DG NCC also held an interaction with the State Education Minister Shri Raju Basnet and discussed aspects related to raising of NCC Group HQ at Sikkim along with establishment of NCC Training Academy in the state as well as means to further motivate the cadets and ANOs of institutes to participate in various NCC programmes.
Earlier the DG also visited NCC Group HQ along with the ADG to review progress on NCC enrolment as also various other activities. This Group HQ of West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate covers North Bengal & Sikkim.
