Kolkata: The vigilant jawans on the border of South Bengal Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) with courage and perseverance successfully foiled several smuggling attempts and chased away 05 illegal Bangladeshi intruders on the Indo-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas and Malda districts. Additionally, a Bangladeshi youth who had inadvertently entered the Indian border was caught and handed over to BGB as a goodwill gesture. In other operations, 620 bottles of banned Phensedyl, 22 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor were seized, as well as 04 cattle were also freed from the clutches of smugglers.

In a remarkable display of courage on the midnight of January 15-16, 2025, a vigilant woman BSF Jawan on second-shift duty spotted a group of armed cattle smugglers advancing rapidly towards the border with cattle. Without hesitation, she alerted her fellow troops and ran towards the smugglers, challenging them to stop.
However, the smugglers, armed with sticks and sharp weapons, ignored her warnings and continued moving aggressively towards the border fence. Realizing the gravity of the situation of forcefully smuggling, the mahila jawan first fired two warning rounds into the air. When the smugglers continued to advance undeterred, she acted decisively fired one PAG round, forcing the smugglers to flee under cover of darkness and crops. A search of the area led to the recovery of two cattle left behind by the smugglers.
The seized contraband has been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action, while the rescued cattle will be e-tagged and handed over to the Dhyan Foundation.
The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier said that BSF is taking strict measures to stop smuggling on the India-Bangladesh border. Due to this, people involved in such crimes are not able to succeed in their plans. The officer further said that we will not allow smuggling from our area under any circumstances.
