Kolkata: Hazra Park Durgotsab, now in its 83rd year, continues to be celebrated as more than just a puja—it is a legacy of inclusivity, tradition, and community spirit. Established in 1942 under the vision of Subhas Chandra Bose, then Mayor of Kolkata Corporation, the puja was conceived to bring together the marginalized and those excluded from mainstream festivities. From its beginnings at Padmapukur to its permanent home at Hazra Park, the celebration has grown in scale while staying true to its founding ideals. Since 2016, it has been known as Hazra Park Durgotsab.

This year’s theme, “Drishtikon” (Perspective), was inaugurated in the presence of eminent personalities including Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of WB, Sayan Deb Chatterjee, Joint Secretary of Hazra Park Durgotsab Committee, and artist Biman Saha, among others.

Conceptualized by noted artist Biman Saha, the theme interprets colour as more than a visual delight—seeing it as a language of emotion, philosophy, and self-expression. When these hues merge with the form of Goddess Durga, they create a “silent poetry”—an artistic dialogue of thoughts and emotions.

Speaking on the occasion, Sayan Deb Chatterjee said, “Colour is not just an ornament to the world—it is its heartbeat. Every shade carries an emotion: the warmth of love, the fire of protest, the courage of conviction, the glow of hope. With ‘Drishtikon’, we want people to look beyond the obvious and experience how colour shapes not just the Goddess’s form but also our very way of thinking. Every shade tells a story, and this year we invite everyone to be part of that story.”

The pandal and idol will embody the multidimensional nature of colour, woven into every detail of design. Visitors will not just witness, but immerse themselves in the celebration—stepping inside an experience where every hue shifts their perspective.

Hazra Park Durgotsab 2025 promises to be a radiant journey through art, philosophy, and emotion—where every colour tells a story, and every story transforms the way we see.
