Kolkata : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference in Kolkata, urging the Armed Forces to push ahead with reforms in line with the vision of jointness, self-reliance and innovation to meet future challenges.

The biennial conference, considered the apex-level military brainstorming forum, brings together the country’s top civilian and military leadership to chalk out strategies for strengthening India’s defence preparedness. This year’s theme is “Year of Reforms – Transformation for the Future.”

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister lauded the Armed Forces for the successful execution of Operation Sindoor and their critical role in nation-building, anti-piracy missions, evacuation of Indian citizens from conflict zones, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in friendly countries.

He directed the Ministry of Defence to move swiftly on implementing structural reforms, enhancing operational jointness among the services, boosting Atmanirbharta in defence production, and adopting cutting-edge innovation in warfare tactics and technology.

Modi was also briefed on the operational readiness of the forces in the post-Operation Sindoor scenario, the evolving nature of warfare in light of emerging technologies, and the reforms carried out in the past two years along with plans for the next phase.

Over the next two days, the conference will conduct a comprehensive review of structural, administrative and operational issues. It will also deliberate on the preparedness of the Armed Forces amid rising global uncertainties and formulate a roadmap for implementing the Prime Minister’s vision for future-ready defence forces.
