Kolkata : In a major boost for daily commuters, Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division will introduce several new suburban train services and extend existing routes from July 6, 2026, to reduce overcrowding and improve passenger convenience across its network.
The initiative includes a new AC EMU Local between Sealdah and Barasat, additional peak-hour services on key routes, and the extension of several existing trains to improve connectivity for thousands of daily passengers.
New AC Local on Sealdah–Barasat Route
A new air-conditioned EMU Local will run between Sealdah and Barasat, offering commuters a more comfortable travel option.
The train will stop at:
Bidhannagar Road
Dum Dum Junction
Dum Dum Cantonment
Birati
Madhyamgram
The service will depart Sealdah at 10:33 am and return from Barasat at 11:29 am. Better Metro Connectivity for Hasnabad Passengers
To ease evening rush-hour travel, Train No. 33319 to Hasnabad will originate from Dum Dum Cantonment instead of Barasat at 5:24 pm, allowing easier interchange with the Metro.
A new Barasat–Dum Dum Cantonment local service will also be introduced, making it the third evening peak-hour train originating from Dum Dum Cantonment towards the Hasnabad/Bangaon section.

Diamond Harbour Line
Two additional evening EMU services will be introduced between Sealdah and Diamond Harbour.
Some trains currently operating as special services will also be regularised to ensure reliable daily operations.
Canning Line
The existing Sealdah–Sonarpur Local will be extended up to Canning, while a new Canning–Sonarpur Local will also begin operations. Existing special services on the route will be regularised.
Baruipur–Lakshmikantapur Line
The evening Sealdah–Baruipur Local will now run up to Lakshmikantapur. The return service, which earlier started from Baruipur, will now originate from Lakshmikantapur.
Relief for Nadia District Commuters
Krishnanagar Line
The late-night 10:08 pm Sealdah–Ranaghat Local (31629) will be extended to Krishnanagar on an experimental basis.
The morning return service (Train 31614) will originate from Krishnanagar instead of Ranaghat on weekdays (Monday to Friday).
New Connectivity for Amghata
Train 31585 (Ranaghat–Shantipur–Krishnanagar) will now be extended to Amghata. A new Amghata–Krishnanagar Local will also be introduced, making travel easier for passengers from Dignagar and nearby areas.
Sealdah Divisional Railway Manager Rajeev Saxena said the changes are aimed at reducing peak-hour crowding, improving passenger comfort, and strengthening Metro connectivity.
“We are committed to continuously improving suburban rail services based on passengers’ needs to ensure safer, smoother, and more reliable daily travel,” he said.
