Kolkata: Kolkata Police has added 183 Ultraviolette X-47 ‘Skyforce’ electric motorcycles to its fleet, marking a major deployment of electric two-wheelers for police operations in the city.

The motorcycles were formally handed over at the Lalbazar Police Headquarters on Friday. According to Ultraviolette, the deployment is among the largest electric motorcycle fleet inductions by an Indian police force.

The X-47 ‘Skyforce’ has been introduced as a dedicated Patrol Variant for Kolkata Police. The motorcycles have been modified to accommodate equipment used during police duty, including sirens, hooters, a public address system, LED blinkers, microphone and walkie-talkie holders, decals and side panniers.

The company said the motorcycles underwent testing before being handed over to the police. The fleet is expected to be used for regular policing and patrol duties rather than being limited to ceremonial deployment.

The X-47 is designed as a crossover electric motorcycle, combining motorcycle performance with features aimed at urban use. Its configuration for Kolkata Police allows officers to carry additional equipment while retaining the manoeuvrability required for city patrols.

Ultraviolette CEO and co-founder Narayan Subramaniam said the company had developed the ‘Skyforce’ variant specifically for police requirements and described the induction as an important milestone for the company.

The deployment also comes as government agencies and public institutions increasingly look at electric vehicles for urban mobility. For police departments, the shift to electric motorcycles could potentially reduce fuel and running costs while supporting efforts to move towards cleaner mobility.

With 183 motorcycles now part of the Kolkata Police fleet, the X-47 ‘Skyforce’ will be used in day-to-day policing across the city, bringing electric mobility into a more visible operational role.
