Kokata: To promote the early detection and timely treatment of hearing impairment in children, CK Birla Hospitals – CMRI, Kolkata, has launched a dedicated initiative titled ‘UJJWOL SOISHOB’. The program aims to enhance healthcare outcomes and raise awareness regarding paediatric hearing health for children aged 0 to 18 years.
In its initial phase, ‘UJJWOL SOISHOB’ will focus on addressing hearing health, combatting childhood deafness, and tackling speech delays caused by undetected hearing issues. Looking ahead, the initiative plans to expand its scope to cover broader paediatric health and developmental concerns.
Targeting 5,000 Children by 2027 As part of the initiative, CMRI, in collaboration with partner NGOs, plans to adopt a district to deliver screening and care beyond the hospital setting. The program has set a target to reach over 5,000 children by 2027, fostering community-wide awareness to ensure early intervention.
The initiative is supported by key partner organizations, including Mahavir Seva Sadan (MSS), Charm ENT Foundation, SOMID (Society for the Mainstream Integration of the Deaf), and Anwesha (an organization of parents of deaf children).

Societal bias and lack of awareness frequently lead to delayed treatment, put the child at a further disadvantage. Early screening allows us to evaluate the child promptly and guide families toward appropriate intervention.”

Launch Event The official launch took place on September 18, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the CMRI Auditorium. The event was attended by Dr. Indranil Khan, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Department of Youth Services and Sports, and Prof. Dr. Arun Singh, Professor of Neonatology at the Dr. B.C. Roy Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics.
