Kolkata: Kolkata is set to become the host city for India Energy Week 2027, with the announcement formally made at the curtain-raiser programme held in the city on September 28. Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari were among the key dignitaries present at the programme.
The fifth edition of India Energy Week will be held from January 28 to 31, 2027, at the New Town Convention Centre, Kolkata, marking the event’s first edition in eastern India. The theme for the 2027 edition is “Unlocking Innovation. Securing Energy. Shaping Tomorrow.”
The Kolkata curtain-raiser brought together government representatives and energy-sector stakeholders ahead of the four-day global event. The programme focused on the growing role of eastern India in the country’s energy landscape and the opportunities that the upcoming event could create for investment, technology and industry partnerships.
Speaking at the programme, Hardeep Singh Puri said India Energy Week 2027 would be an important part of the country’s continuing energy journey, with particular attention expected on areas such as biofuels, green hydrogen, sustainability and energy transition.
The choice of Kolkata also places greater attention on eastern and northeastern India, with West Bengal and neighbouring energy-producing and industrial states forming an important part of the region’s wider energy ecosystem.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari thanked the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for bringing India Energy Week to the state. He also referred to developments including the Ashoknagar oilfield in North 24 Parganas, along with projects and initiatives connected with the state’s energy infrastructure.
Adhikari said the event could provide an opportunity to attract fresh investment, expand existing projects and generate employment opportunities in West Bengal.
75,000+ Energy Professionals Expected
India Energy Week 2027 is expected to bring together more than 75,000 energy professionals and over 700 international exhibitors. The programme will cover a wide range of areas across the energy sector, including oil and gas, LNG, refining and petrochemicals, hydrogen, biofuels, digitalisation and artificial intelligence.
The scale of the upcoming edition builds on the growth of India Energy Week since its launch in Bengaluru in 2023. The 2026 edition in Goa had more than 75,000 energy professionals, 700 exhibiting companies and participation from over 120 countries, according to the organisers.
The Kolkata edition is also expected to bring together policymakers, investors, technology companies and senior representatives from across the global energy value chain.
With energy security, affordability and the transition towards cleaner energy increasingly linked to technology and investment, discussions at IEW 2027 are expected to focus on practical solutions and emerging technologies shaping the sector.
For Kolkata, the event will mark the city’s first hosting of India Energy Week and bring an international energy industry gathering to New Town early next year.
India Energy Week 2027 is being organised under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, with the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI) and Informa Markets involved in organising the event.
