Kolkata : Managing customer communication across multiple service providers and digital channels could become simpler for businesses with Airtel Business launching Airtel IQ Gateway, a new platform that brings SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, business voice and number verification under a single control system.
The platform, which Airtel describes as India’s first telco-grade network intelligence platform for enterprise communications, is aimed at businesses that currently rely on multiple vendors and communication tools to reach customers.
The launch comes at a time when enterprises are increasingly dealing with issues such as message delivery failures, fraudulent traffic, rising SMS costs and growing risks around customer authentication.
One platform for multiple communication channels
With IQ Gateway, enterprises can manage different customer communication channels from a single dashboard. The platform also provides real-time analytics and network-level delivery reporting, giving businesses greater visibility into whether their messages are actually reaching customers.
A key feature is intelligent routing across SMS, WhatsApp, RCS and voice. Businesses can also configure fallback options and automatically switch to another service provider if a particular communication route faces an issue.
According to Airtel Business, this could reduce dependence on individual vendors and help enterprises maintain customer communication even when one channel or provider experiences disruption.
The platform also integrates Airtel’s native DLT-based message template system, allowing enterprises to manage pre-approved communication templates with less manual intervention.
Focus on SMS pumping and fraudulent traffic
One of the major concerns addressed by the new platform is SMS pumping, where automated systems generate large volumes of SMS traffic, resulting in inflated communication costs for businesses.
IQ Gateway uses Airtel’s network intelligence and fraud detection capabilities to identify unusual traffic patterns and potential fraudulent activity. The system is designed to detect artificial traffic spikes and help enterprises prevent unnecessary communication costs.
The platform also incorporates Airtel IQ Verify, which uses network, device and usage signals to identify potentially fraudulent account creation and account takeover attempts.
For sectors such as banking, financial services, government, e-commerce and logistics, where large volumes of customer communication are handled every day, such capabilities could have a direct impact on both security and operating costs.
Silent Authentication as an alternative to OTP
Another significant component of the platform is Silent Authentication, which can be used for certain login and SIM-binding processes instead of traditional OTP-based verification.
The technology checks whether the mobile number entered by a user matches the active SIM in the device. By moving authentication closer to the network layer, Airtel says the system can help reduce risks associated with SIM swaps and social engineering.
For enterprises handling sensitive customer accounts, the move could provide an additional layer of identity verification while reducing dependence on OTP SMS.
DPDP-compliant deployment options
Airtel Business said IQ Gateway has been designed to comply with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) framework.
Enterprises can deploy the platform according to their own infrastructure and security requirements. It can either be installed on an organisation’s premises or hosted on Airtel’s cloud as a SaaS solution.
This gives businesses greater flexibility over how their communication infrastructure is managed while retaining access to Airtel’s network-level intelligence and fraud protection capabilities.
Airtel extends consumer fraud protection to enterprises
The launch represents an expansion of Airtel’s existing network-based fraud prevention capabilities into the enterprise communication space.
Sharat Sinha, CEO, Airtel Business, said the company sees secure customer engagement as increasingly important as India moves towards a larger digital economy. He said the network-level approach could help enterprises, particularly banks, government departments and logistics companies, reduce cybercrime-related losses and strengthen trust in digital interactions.
The platform has already gone through trial deployments involving select banks, financial institutions and other industry collaborations before its nationwide launch.
Airtel Business will showcase IQ Gateway at its booth during India Mobile Congress 2026, being held from October 7 to 10.
The platform’s ability to bring multiple communication channels, vendor management, authentication and fraud detection into one system could be particularly relevant for enterprises handling high volumes of customer interactions, where delivery reliability and protection against fraudulent traffic are becoming as important as the communication itself.
