Kolkata: Techno India University. West Bengal held its Annual Convocation Ceremony at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on 12th August 2024 where over 3000 students received their Doctorate. Postgraduate and Undergraduate degrees, including 22 PhD holders and over 60 Gold Medalists.
The Convocation Ceremony reached new heights with regards to rewarding academic excellence and providing a platform for students to listen to and interact with the thought leaders of current times from various fields.
The Chief Guest of the occasion was the Hon’ble Former President of India Ram Nath Kovind who delivered the Convocation Speech which enthralled all in attendance. The presence of the highest-ranked Army. Coast Guard and Air Force Officers in Eastern India lent the program an appropriate air of discipline and patriotism.
From the fraternity of Engineering and Science, Dr. Partha Pratim Chakrabarti of IIT Kharagpur was awarded the honorary D. Litt degree. Shri. Shankar Mahadevan was bestowed the award in the category of Indian Music. Shri. Shabana Azmi received the honorary degree for the category of Indian Arts, while Shri. Gulzar was awarded for his contribution to the category of Indian Literature. Dr. Kunal Sarkar received the award for the category of Medical Science while Dr. Kall Pradip Chaudhuri was awarded for the category of Medical Edication. Shri. Achyuta Samanta and Shri. K. D. Mondal were awarded D. Litt degrees for the category of Education and Social Upliftment while Shri. Subhankar Chakraborty was awarded in the capacity of an Educationist. Shri. Leander Paes received the honorary D. Litt degree in the
category of Indian Sports, while Shri. Jogen Chowdhury received the award for the category of Indian Visual Arts.
An emotional and poignant segment of the Convocation Ceremony focused on the love, dedication and sense of sacrifice that a soldier feels towards their motherland with the felicitation on the dais of Mrs. Uma Adhikari, the wife of Late Sep Jayanta Adhikari who lost his life in the line of duty in 1992. Through this special feliciation, Techno India University reaffirmed its quest to instill in its students a sense of deep patriotism and responsibility towards the Indian nation.
The Convocation does not represent the closing of a chapter in a student’s life, but rather the opening of a door leading to newer opportunities and challenges. One of the core strengths of Techno India University which has allowed its students to excel in public life and grab newer opportunities has always been the robust network of its alumni, which has been instrumental in the growth of the University, its ever-expanding research scope and the professional pathways afforded to its students.
In his speech, the Chancellor of Techno India University, Prof. Dr. Gautam Roy Chowdhury exhorted the students in attendance to pick up the methodology and uses of Artificial Intelligence, highlighting the importance it would play in research and industry in the coming years, as well the opportunities it afforded students in making meaningful contributions to all domains including Arts, Science and Humanities. He urged the graduating students to become well-versed and habituated in Al and Machine Learning in order to become industry leaders in the future.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samiran Chattopadhyay touched upon the importance of a student’s intellectual development becoming a resource for society in general, without which it could never realise its true potential.
