Kolkata: An eviction drive was conducted at Sealdah Railway Station today to remove unauthorized stalls that were obstructing passenger movement and posing safety hazards. The drive was carried out by a joint team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, Commercial Dept. and Station officials.
The eviction drive began and continued for several hours. During this period, numerous unauthorized stalls were removed from the station premises, including platforms and concourse area. The drive was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, with minimal disruption to passenger traffic.
The presence of unauthorized stalls at Sealdah Station had been a long-standing issue, causing serious inconvenience for passengers and at the same time creating a security risk. The stalls often encroached on walkways and blocked access to entry point of platform area. They also posed a fire hazard due to the use of electrical connections.
The eviction drive is part of an ongoing effort by Sealdah Division to improve passenger amenities and safety at Sealdah Station.
