Imphal : In a grave incident, unidentified terrorists carried out an attack on an Assam Rifles column in an AFSPA-denotified area of Manipur on the evening of 19 September 2025.
At approximately 1750 hours, a vehicle-mounted column of the 33 Assam Rifles was moving along National Highway-2 near Nambol Sabal Leikai, when it came under sudden and unprovoked automatic weapon fire.
In the exchange of fire, two soldiers of Assam Rifles made the supreme sacrifice while five others sustained injuries. The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to RIMS, Imphal, and are currently reported to be stable.
As of now, no organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack. Security forces have launched search and combing operations in the area to track down the perpetrators.
This incident comes at a sensitive time, as the location of the attack falls under a zone where the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) had been lifted, raising fresh concerns over security vulnerabilities in the region.
