Kolkata: In a major step towards strengthening railway infrastructure and ensuring enhanced passenger safety, Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division will undertake a 23-hour Traffic and Power Mega Block for the replacement and launching of new girders at Bridge No. X-25.

The block will be operational from 10:00 pm on January 24 to 9:00 pm on January 25, 2026 (Saturday night to Sunday) between Kankurgachi (KGK) and Ballygunge (BLN) stations on both UP and DN Chord Lines.

🔧 Safety Upgrade with Future-Ready Infrastructure

The existing bridge girders, which have completed their operational lifespan, are being replaced as part of a proactive safety and modernization initiative. The installation of new, high-strength girders will significantly enhance the structural stability of the bridge and enable smoother train operations with improved speed potential in this crucial rail corridor.

Railway officials confirmed that the mega block has been carefully scheduled over a weekend, with Sunday being a public holiday, to minimise inconvenience to daily commuters and office-goers.
