Kolkata: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Kolkata Zonal Unit organizeda cycle rally on the eve of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. In a combined effort with several stakeholders, NCB organized a cycle rally where 200 cyclists to make the public aware about the ill effects of drugs and the problem it poses for the society.
The rally was flagged off by S.N. Pradhan, IPS Director General, NCB through online mode and physically by Monika Batra, IRS, Dy. Director General, NCB. The Dy. Director General, NCB and Rakesh Chandra Shukla, Zonal Director, NCB, Kolkata also participated in the rally along with the bikers acting as “Nasha Mukt Bharat’ volunteers.
The Dy. Director General NCB read the e-pledge – “Say Yes to Life, No to drugs”and all the NCB officials along with all the cyclistsand public took the pledge. The rally in Kolkata commenced from Narcotics Control Bureau, Kolkata office in Newtown. The route of the rally was NCB office – Eco Park – NCB office which coveredof about 20kms for sensitizing people against the menace of drugs.
It is reiterated that the Hon’ble Union Home Minister has also directed that mass awareness campaign against ill effects of drugs should be undertaken on National level through suitable platforms including educational institutes. The ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ has been undertaken with the noble intention to make the nation drug free.
Drugs are destroying the life of the people especially the youth and the students and the workable force. It destroys not only in the person but also his family, society and the nation as a whole.
26thJune of each year is celebrated as the “International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking” and thus, every year on 26th June, steps taken by the Government against drug abuse and illicit trafficking are highlighted, apart from spreading awareness on the subject. The very aim of this observance is to create awareness amongst the public regarding ill effects of the Drug Menace.The DG, NCB appealed the people to make their family drug free.
The Government of India has also adopted a vision for a “DRUG FREE INDIA” which reiterates India’s resolve to fight against the menace of drugs. It is our duty to strongly enforce the fight against the supply side and equally shares the responsibility to spread awareness about the ill-effects of drug abuse among the youth in particular and citizens at large.
