The theme for World Patient Safety Day in 2023 revolved around the concept of “Empowering Patients for Ensuring Healthcare Safety,” emphasizing the indispensable role that patients, their families, and care-givers play in safeguarding the quality and safety of healthcare services. The event saw the esteemed presence of R. Udayan Lahiry, Managing Director of the Medica Group of Hospitals, along with Ayanabh Debgupta, Joint Managing Director of the Medica Group of Hospitals. Notable guests of honor, versatile playback singer Usha Uthup and popular Bengali lyricist, poet and orator – Chandril Bhattacharya also graced the occasion
World Patient Safety Day 2023 sets forth several key objectives. It aims to globally raise awareness regarding the imperative role of patients, their families, and caregivers across all healthcare settings and levels in enhancing patient safety. This initiative seeks to actively involve policy- makers, healthcare leaders, healthcare workers, patient organizations, civil society, and other stakeholders in the pursuit of patient and family engagement within safe healthcare policies and practices Furthermore, it endeavors to empower patients and their families to take an active role in their healthcare journey, contributing to its safety enhancement. Lastly, World Patient Safety Day advocates for swift and coordinated action in patient and family engagement, in alignment with the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030, involving all relevant partners. To encapsulate these goals, the slogan “Elevate the voice of patients!” signifies a call to action for stakeholders to ensure patient’s inclusion in policy development, representation in governance structures, collaboration in safety strategy design, and active participation in their own care, promoting safety, patient-centric care, trustworthiness, and equity through diverse voices, concerns, expectations, and preferences.
