INTERNATIONAL LEVEL CROSSING AWARENESS DAY OBSERVED BY SEALDAH DIVISION

Kolkata : The International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is a worldwide initiative to improve awareness of level crossing safety. The campaign has been spearheaded by the International Union of Railways, the worldwide Railway organisation with the support of the railway community around the world to raise the public’s awareness of the risks at level crossings and to increase safety. About 50 countries took part in the ILCAD annual campaign. This year awareness campaign target “Vulnerable users” with the slogan “Beware of trains. Life can change in a split second”.

There are more than half a million level crossings across the world, whereas Sealdah has about 450 across the division. 62% of all major accidents involving injury or fatality are reported to have been caused by trespassing.

On the occasion of the International Level Crossing Awareness Day, Sealdah Division organized an awareness campaign at Belgharia station.

DRM Sealdah Deepak Nigam addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of being vigilant while crossing railway tracks. He urged the public to never try to cross tracks when a train is approaching, to use designated level crossings always. Sri Nigam DRM/Sealdah further emphasized upon the importance of level crossing safety with the message “Safety First: Always Be Alert at Level Crossings”. ADRM/I, Sr. DSO and other officials took part in the campaign.

As a part of the awareness campaign, pamphlets containing safety guidelines were distributed to the public. The pamphlets explained the various safety measures that should be taken while crossing railway tracks and the consequences of ignoring safety rules.

The awareness campaign was immensely beneficial for the common public gathered and it was well received by them. DRM/Sealdah expressed his gratitude to the common people for their spontaneous participation and cooperation in the campaign. He also urged them to spread the message of level crossing safety to their family, friends & neighbors.
