Kolkata : Vigilant BSF jawans under South Bengal Frontier foiled smuggling attempts in several border areas of North 24 Parganas District of West Bengal and seized 2100 Phensidyl bottles and 213 units of Clop-G cream when smugglers were trying to smuggle these banned items from India to Bangladesh. The estimated Indian market value of the seized goods is Rs 4,39,815/-.
According to the information, on the night of 31 August 2024, the jawans of Border Outpost Gunarmath, 05 Battalion had increased vigilance based on the information provided by the intelligence department. At around 0110 hrs, the jawans noticed suspicious movements in the fenced fields along the Ichhamati river. The Jawans then challenged the smugglers and tried to warn them by throwing stones from the bridge. Despite these efforts, the smugglers were not visible due to swampy and waterlogged conditions.
During a thorough search of the area at about 0200 hrs, the Jawans found a black polythene bag tied to a rope floating in the river near the bridge. With the help of the rope, the Jawans successfully retrieved the packet which contained 10 large sealed plastic bags. On searching, 2,000 bottles of Phensedyl were found from the packets, worth ₹4,10,960/-.
Further at about 0115 hrs, the Jawans of Border Out Post Kalutala, 85th Battalion seized 100 bottles of Phensedyl from their area of responsibility, worth ₹20,548/-. And, at about 0840 hrs, the troops of Border Out Post Bithari, 143rd Battalion seized 213 units of Clop-G Cream worth ₹8,307/– which were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
The seized items have been handed over to the concerned department for further legal action.
The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier said that BSF is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling on the Indo-Bangladesh border. Due to this, people involved in such crimes have to face a lot of trouble. The officer further said that we will not allow smuggling from our area under any circumstances.
