Kolkata : Landfall of severe Cyclone DANA commenced on Thursday night. As the super cyclone made landfall, various parts of Kolkata and suburban reported torrential and incessant rainfall, leading to the suspension of few EMU train operations in Sealdah Division from yesterday evening to today (25.10.2024) morning.
In a bid to combat the impending disaster and possible devastative repercussions of super cyclone, Sealdah Division had implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of passengers and smooth operation of train services. For ensuring uninterrupted services and minimum damage, the following actions have been undertaken:-
• DG sets were strategically deployed at all important and vulnerable locations like Sealdah, Kolkata, Sonarpur, Namkhana, Lakshmikantapur, Namkhana etc. to mitigate the impact of potential power disruptions. Adequate number pumps were also installed to prevent waterlogging on the tracks, ensuring the railway infrastructure remains functional even in adverse weather conditions.
• Officers were deployed on round the clock basis at Sealdah War Room to monitor the situation. Number of expert staff from different disciplines like Operating, Engineering, Mechanical, Signal & Telecom Departments have been stationed at critical points to monitor and maintain the system’s integrity, ensuring the safe and efficient resumption of service.
• Medical teams with Doctor & Paramedical staff equipped with necessary medical supplies and personnel were stationed at strategic locations to provide immediate medical assistance to any passengers or staff affected by the cyclone Dana.
• For Security and Maintenance, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and other relevant departments are on high alert to maintain law and order, protect railway property and ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
• Tower Wagons were stationed at inprotants location like Sonarpur, Baruipur, Barasat, Lakhikantapur, Bagalia to monitor the situation and co-ordinate quick response.

• All trains scheduled to depart from Sealdah station towards the South section and Hasnabad section have departed as per schedule. Trains arriving at Sealdah station were also on time.
