Kolkata : The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, today launched the new portal for polling personnel – EMMS 2.0 (emms.wb.gov.in) – to streamline the preparation of election manpower database for the upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections 2026.
The portal was inaugurated virtually in the presence of Arindam Niyogi, Additional Chief Electoral Officer; Dr. Sumanta Roy, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer; Saikat Narayan Bhattacharya, Joint Director (IT) and Samik Kumar Bhattacharya, Joint Director (IT), NIC Kolkata. Senior officials including all Additional District Magistrates (Election), Officers-in-Charge (Polling Personnel/Election), DIOs and ADIOs of NIC, Sub-Divisional Officers (in charge of polling personnel) from 24 districts, and Shri Ashis Mukherjee, Sr. Director (IT), NIC, WBSU, also attended the launch.
As part of the programme, detailed software operational training was conducted, and a comprehensive timeline of activities—including probable training sessions for polling personnel and the data entry schedule—was shared with district-level officers.
With a projected increase of about 14,000 polling stations and many existing polling personnel now serving as Booth Level Officers (BLOs), building a robust database of approximately 32,000 officers has been identified as critical to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2026 elections.
Key features of EMMS 2.0 include:
- Randomization of polling personnel
- Training on demand
- Online testing modules
- Automated generation of intimation letters
- Monitoring of election experience
Through this upgraded system, offices across West Bengal will directly log into the portal for data entry and management, strengthening transparency, efficiency, and preparedness for the upcoming polls.
