Kolkata: In a decisive move to enhance passenger safety, the Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway has launched a robust fencing and safety enforcement drive to eliminate track trespassing and prevent fatal human run-over cases.
Recognizing that unauthorized track crossings remain a leading cause of such tragedies, the Division has begun installing physical barriers and fencing at vulnerable points across its jurisdiction. The initiative, which began at Jadavpur Station, will be expanded rapidly to other identified locations.
The fencing aims to restrict unsafe shortcuts and ensure passengers use designated safe crossings such as Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), subways, and marked pathways. Officials emphasize that the effort is part of a broader commitment to channel passenger movement through secure routes and minimize accidents.
Speaking on the initiative, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sealdah, Rajeev Saxena, said:
“Safety is not just a priority—it is our foremost commitment. The installation of these barriers is vital to prevent avoidable tragedies caused by momentary lapses in judgment. We urge all passengers: do not risk your life to save a few minutes. Use the safe infrastructure provided. We are building safer stations, but you must choose the safe path.”
With this fencing drive, Sealdah Division reinforces its mission to create a safer and more disciplined railway environment for all passengers.
