Doctors from Fortis Anandapur Emphasise Role of Screening and Early Detection in Saving Lives at Cancer Awareness Health Talk

Kolkata : Senior cancer specialists from Fortis Hospital, Anandapur, underscored the critical importance of screening and early detection in improving cancer survival rates and quality of life at a Cancer Awareness Health Talk, organised in collaboration with the Press Club, Kolkata, on Tuesday. The session witnessed participation from over 50 media professionals, highlighting the growing need for awareness and timely intervention in cancer care.

The interactive programme aimed to educate the community on early warning signs of cancer, preventive strategies, regular screening protocols, lifestyle modifications, and the significance of a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer management. Experts noted a rising incidence of cancer cases in Kolkata, particularly head and neck, breast, uterine, prostate, oral, and lung cancers. Tobacco consumption continues to be a major contributor to oral and lung cancers among men, while breast and cervical cancers remain leading concerns among women—often due to delayed diagnosis and lack of awareness, especially in rural areas.

The health talk was led by a distinguished panel of specialists from Fortis Hospital, Anandapur:
