Sikkim: Generali Central Insurance, a joint venture between global insurance major Generali Group and the Central Bank of India, has announced its partnership with the Sikkim Football Association (SFA) as the Title Sponsor of the Senior Women’s Football League 2026, set to be organised across the state of Sikkim.

Scheduled to commence on February 24, 2026, the league will feature top women’s football clubs from Sikkim, Darjeeling and Siliguri, reinforcing the region’s growing prominence in women’s football. The tournament is envisioned as a critical bridge in the grassroots-to-league development pathway, aimed at nurturing talent and providing structured competitive exposure to women athletes.

The league will see participation from six teams, including Gangtok Himalayan Sporting Club (Sikkim), Singling Sporting Club (Soreng, Sikkim), Northereners Football (Mangan, Sikkim), Darjeeling XI, Chijachen Sports Academy (Sikkim) and Milan More Football Academy (Siliguri).

Aligned with Generali Central Insurance’s core philosophy of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), the partnership marks a significant step towards the professionalisation of women’s sports in the region. Through strategic financial support, the company aims to elevate the league to national standards, foster a sustainable sporting ecosystem and create long-term opportunities for women footballers.

With increasing national focus on women’s sports and India’s expanding footprint in international competitions, state-level leagues such as this play a vital role in strengthening the country’s talent pipeline.
