Zindagi Zindabad: Cancer Warriors Turn Challenges into Celebration

Kolkata: Manipal Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre organised the Cancer Warrior Sports Summit – ‘Zindagi Zindabad’, bringing together cancer warriors for a day of sports, entertainment, interaction and celebration of life.

The summit aimed to move beyond the clinical aspects of cancer treatment and provide patients with an opportunity to reconnect with confidence, companionship and the joy of participation. Participants took part in activities including carrom, chess, ring toss, brain teasers, jumbled words, antakshari, music and masti.

Senior specialists from the Manipal Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre, including Dr. Sourav Datta, Dr. Neha Choudhary, Dr. Debanjali Datta, Dr. Pooja Agarwal, Dr. Rajib De, Dr. Arunava Roy, Dr. Harsh Dhar and Dr. Kinshuk Chatterjee, interacted with the participants and highlighted the importance of physical, emotional and social well-being during and after cancer treatment.

The event also featured the presence of former Indian footballer Mehtab Hossain, ultramarathon runner Anjali Saraogi and Indian cricketer Anup Kumar Das, whose participation encouraged the cancer warriors to remain active and continue pursuing their interests.

Dr. Sourav Datta, Director, Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre, Broadway and Mukundpur Cluster, Kolkata, said cancer care goes beyond treatment and requires emotional resilience and a strong support system. He described ‘Zindagi Zindabad’ as a celebration of hope, confidence and the joy of living.

Doctors at the summit also stressed the importance of staying physically active within individual medical limitations, maintaining social connections and addressing the stigma associated with cancer.

The initiative reinforced Manipal Hospital’s focus on patient-centric and multidisciplinary cancer care, with emphasis not only on advanced medical treatment but also on fitness, emotional well-being, confidence and quality of life.

The summit concluded with a message of positivity and resilience — cancer may be a part of the journey, but it does not have to take away the joy of living.
