Kolkata: The organisers of the New Town Sanatani Durga Puja on Wednesday highlighted the challenges they claimed to have faced over the past four years, including difficulties in securing a venue and legal battles, during a press conference at the Press Club.
The puja was inaugurated by BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, in 2022. According to the organisers, they faced several difficulties in organising the puja in the following years, particularly in securing a suitable venue.
The organisers claimed that at one point they were forced to hold the Durga Puja at a bus stand due to the difficulties over the venue. They also spoke about the legal challenges they faced and their repeated approach to the courts in connection with the organisation of the puja.
At Wednesday’s press conference, the organisers outlined their plans for this year’s Durga Puja, saying that it would be organised on a larger scale.
The role of Subrata Gupta, whom the organisers described as the Chairman of the puja committee and an aide to the Chief Minister, also came up for discussion during the press conference.
The organisers, along with their full team, shared details of the puja’s four-year journey, the challenges they claimed to have faced and their plans for this year’s celebration.
