Kolkata: A special drive has been launched across West Bengal to identify and facilitate the enrolment of people who are yet to be registered as voters, including first-time and young electors.

According to a press note issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, the initiative is being undertaken under the continuous updation of electoral rolls, following instructions from the Election Commission of India.

The Election Office has clarified that any eligible person whose name is not yet included in the electoral roll, or whose name has been deleted, can apply for enrolment at any time. The department has reiterated that no eligible voter should be left out of the electoral roll.

Special Camps for Homeless and Marginalised Citizens

As part of the campaign, District Election Officers (DEOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will organise special enrolment camps for people living in night shelters, labour colonies, as well as homeless and marginalised communities.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring that people who may face difficulties in accessing the regular enrolment process are also given an opportunity to register as voters.

Focus on Young and First-Time Electors

The Election Department will also undertake awareness and mobilisation activities through educational institutions, local-level outreach programmes and SVEEP activities.

Regular press briefings and other suitable platforms will be used to inform eligible citizens about the opportunity to enrol themselves in the electoral roll.

The special drive is expected to help strengthen voter participation by bringing left-out citizens, young voters and first-time electors into the electoral process.

Public Interest: Eligible citizens who have not yet registered as voters, or whose names have been removed from the electoral roll, can apply for enrolment. The Election Department has urged eligible citizens to make use of the opportunity and ensure that their names are included in the electoral roll.
