Kolkata: Bandhan Bank has donated an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance to the Dakshineswar Kali Temple in Kolkata to strengthen emergency medical services for devotees and visitors.

The ambulance was handed over on October 9 by Bandhan Bank MD and CEO Partha Pratim Sengupta and Executive Director and COO Ratan Kumar Kesh to Kushal Chowdhury, chairman, settlor and convenor of the Lokamata Rani Rashmoni Foundation, Dakshineswar, and trustee member Joyiti Choudhury. Senior representatives of the temple and the bank were also present at the handover ceremony.

The donation is part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to deploy 24 Advanced Life Support ambulances across India. The programme aims to improve access to emergency medical care and strengthen response capabilities in situations requiring urgent medical attention.

The ambulance at Dakshineswar Kali Temple is expected to support emergency medical requirements at the temple, which attracts large numbers of devotees throughout the year, particularly during religious festivals and special occasions.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Sengupta said the initiative was aimed at strengthening emergency medical response systems. He also highlighted the temple’s historical and cultural significance, adding that the bank’s social development efforts extended beyond its core banking operations.

Bandhan Bank said its CSR programmes have reached more than 29.62 lakh families across 84 districts in 22 states and union territories. Its initiatives focus on healthcare, education, livelihood generation and climate resilience, with particular emphasis on women and rural communities.

The ambulance donation adds to these efforts, with a focus on improving access to critical healthcare services at an important religious destination in West Bengal.
