Kolkata: West Bengal Police, in coordination with Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL)—the maker of Goodknight, one of India’s leading household insecticide brands—conducted multiple raids across Kolkata and South 24 Parganas to curb the sale and distribution of counterfeit Goodknight LV products.

The raids, supported by GCPL’s investigation agency, were carried out following actionable intelligence regarding the circulation of fake mosquito repellent products in the region. Authorities described the operation as a significant step toward protecting consumers from potentially harmful counterfeit goods.

Major Seizures Across Locations

In Kolkata, a raid was conducted at S. Nawaz Stores, located at 7, R.G. Kar Road, Shyambazar. Police recovered a substantial quantity of counterfeit Godrej Goodknight Flash LV twin refills, including:

  • 7 carton boxes containing 120 boxes each (1,680 pieces)
  • 1 carton box containing 11 boxes (22 pieces)

In South 24 Parganas, raids were carried out at:

  • Sreehari Bhandar, KM Roychowdhury Road, Rajpur Bazar, Sonarpur
  • Sarada Bhandar, Sonarpur Gorkhara Bazar

The seized counterfeit items included:

  • 10 packs of New Goodknight Flash LV (two refills each)
  • 20 pieces of New Goodknight 45 ml refills
  • 20 Goodknight LV combo packs (one machine + one refill)
  • 39 Goodknight LV 45 ml refills

Officials indicated that the volume and packaging style suggest a well-organized network involved in manufacturing and distributing fake products.

Legal Action Initiated

FIRs (First Information Reports) have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and the Copyright Act, 1957. Authorities are now tracking supply chains and distribution links to prevent further circulation of counterfeit goods in West Bengal and neighboring states.

This action sends a strong warning to those engaged in the trade of counterfeit products and reinforces the commitment of law enforcement agencies to safeguard consumer interests.
