GNIT’s Metamorph 2.0 draws 400+ teams for 36-hour national hackathon
Kolkata: More than 400 teams competed in the preliminary stages of Guru Nanak Institute of Technology’s (GNIT) national hackathon, Metamorph 2.0, with 37 teams eventually making it to the 36-hour final round held in Kolkata.
The competition, organised by GNIT, a JIS Group educational initiative, saw 28 teams compete in the Software Track and nine in the Hardware Track. Students from institutions including Sharda University, University of Delhi, Manipal University Jaipur and IIT Madras took part in the event.
The 36-hour challenge required participants to develop and refine technology-based solutions while working under tight deadlines. Along with technical skills, the competition tested teamwork, leadership, time management and the ability to respond to real-world problems.
In the Software Track, Team Pista Barfi from Asansol Engineering College won the top prize for Opalite, an integrated visual branding workspace. Team Nano Pineapple of JIS College of Engineering finished as first runner-up with Vestigium, a cryptographic AI code-provenance and security platform. Team Pikachu, also from JIS College of Engineering, took the second runner-up position for StayOnTask, an AI Agent Safety Harness.
The Hardware Track was won by Team Gach Lagan from NSHM College of Management and Technology for its Quantum-Resilient Telemetry Encryption Model. Team System-F from Future Institute of Engineering and Management was the first runner-up.
Two special awards were also given during the event. Team Valkyrie from GNIT was named Best Beginner’s Team for NoticeIQ, an AI-based digital campus platform. The Best All-Girls Team award went to Team Heroi Krush from RCC Institute of Information Technology for Friday, a collaborative product-development workspace.
The event opened with an inauguration attended by GNIT Principal Prof. (Dr.) Swarup Kumar Mitra, faculty members, participants and guests. Chief Guest Anish Das, Inspector, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), spoke to participants about technology, professional discipline and problem-solving, drawing on his experience in engineering, banking and customs enforcement.
The hackathon concluded with the announcement of the winning teams and recognition of the faculty members, student coordinators, committee SPOCs, volunteers and organising team involved in conducting the event.
JIS Group Director Sardar Simarpreet Singh said the initiative was aimed at giving students a platform to turn ideas into technology-driven solutions and gain experience in innovation, collaboration and problem-solving.
