Kolkata: Central Kolkata’s Young Boys Club Durga Puja, known for its grand artistry and socially conscious themes, inaugurated its 56th year with “Operation Sindoor”, a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of India’s armed forces. The vibrant pandal on Tara Chand Dutta Street drew thousands of visitors, blending devotion with patriotism.
The pandal, designed by Debshankar Mahesh, features striking installations of Indian Army tanks, fighter jets, and missiles. A notable highlight is the inclusion of replicas of decorated women officers, Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, symbolising women’s leadership in the armed forces.
Speaking at the inauguration, Rakesh Singh, Chief Organiser, said, “Durga Puja is more than a festival – it is an emotion. ‘Operation Sindoor’ is our tribute to brave soldiers who safeguard the nation. Through this Puja, we hope to inspire patriotism and pride among visitors.”
Vikrant Singh, Youth President, added, “The theme honours the courage and sacrifice of our soldiers. We want every visitor to feel a deep sense of gratitude for their dedication.”
Co-organiser Vinod Singh said, “We aim to create a Durga Puja that leaves a lasting impression through meaningful storytelling. With this theme, we celebrate the indomitable spirit of our armed forces and the strength of Maa Durga.”
The Durga idol, sculpted by Kushadhwaj Bera, retains traditional style while complementing the modern patriotic theme of the pandal, creating a harmonious blend of devotion and national pride.
