Kolkata: Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in India, accounting for nearly 30% of all female cancers. In 2025 alone, an estimated 2.3 lakh women nationwide, including more than 15,000 in West Bengal, are expected to be newly diagnosed. Alarmingly, over half of these cases are detected at advanced stages, and Indian women are often diagnosed almost 10 years younger than their Western counterparts — during their most active years of work and family life.
Amidst these realities, Desun Hospital has launched a Specialized Breast Cancer Clinic focused on Breast Conservation Surgery (BCS) — a modern treatment approach that preserves both health and dignity. The clinic will operate every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Dr. Sreya Mallik, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Desun Hospital, said,
“With targeted therapies, precision chemotherapy, and post-operative radiotherapy, breast conservation has become a safe and effective choice for many women. Our multidisciplinary tumour board ensures every patient receives a personalized plan best suited to her stage and condition.”
Dr. Jyoti Gupta, Consultant Onco-Surgeon & Breast Surgery Specialist, added,
“At Desun, we integrate advanced imaging and surgical planning to ensure oncological safety while maintaining the breast’s natural contour. Our goal is to empower women with treatment options that uphold both health and self-esteem.”
Dr. Aman Prakash, Consultant Onco-Surgeon, emphasized,
“In early-stage breast cancer, survival rates with Breast Conservation Surgery combined with radiotherapy are equivalent to those of mastectomy. The focus is not only on curing cancer but also on helping women regain normalcy and body confidence.”
Highlighting the psychological dimension, Anushila Dutta, Consultant Psychologist, Desun Hospital, noted,
“Emotional recovery is as vital as physical healing. Counselling helps patients cope with fear, rebuild self-image, and embrace life after cancer.”
Reaffirming Desun’s vision, Sajal Dutta, Chairman & Managing Director, Desun Hospital, concluded,
“At Desun, healing is about science delivered with compassion. Our new Breast Cancer Clinic reflects our belief that every woman deserves not just survival, but dignity and hope.”
